Why choose Btec Health and Social Care?
This course is ideal if you do not want to take a purely academic-style GCE. You get the best of both worlds by gaining a respected GCE qualification that encompasses a ‘real world' vocational approach.
The course is all about people and why they behave the way they do. You will gain a greater understanding of what it is like to work in the health, social care and early year's sectors and you will develop the skills, knowledge and understanding that will prepare you for working in these environments.
The course will be covered in lots of different and interesting ways: there will be classroom discussion, visits from health professionals, research, interviews, project work and presentations.
Course Outline
This course is accredited through the OCR exam board. You will study the following 3 units of work:
Unit 1 - Promoting Quality Care - this will be externally assessed.
Unit 2 - Communication in Care Settings - this will be assessed by coursework
Unit 3 - Promoting Good Health - this will be assessed by coursework
Resources and facilities
All students following this course will be able to refer to the standard textbook which can be viewed on the Heinemann Website (www.heinemann.co.uk/healthandsocialcare )
However students will be gain most resources through visiting speakers, workplace visits, surveys, questionnaires and short blocks of work experience.
Careers and progression
This course is designed to give a broad introduction to the health and social care industry and prepare you for further study into higher education or further training. The qualification attracts UCAS points in the same way as ordinary GCE's. It is also an ideal qualification for anyone thinking about going into teaching, nursing, social work any other health profession.
Entry requirements
Candidates will need a minimum of 5 GCSE passes at grade C and above, one of which must be English Language. Prior study of the GCSE in Health and Social Care will be of benefit to candidates but is not mandatory.
Course Results
This course is being offered for the first time this year and will build on the foundation of excellent results currently achieved at GCSE level.
